 The song was already a well-known standard, having been recorded by countless artists before The Platters (including a famous 1935 version by Irene Dunne). However, in the late 1950s, The Platters' manager, Buck Ram, convinced the group to record an updated, "rock-and-roll" version with a doo-wop backbeat.
